IRIS - Information Resource for Isles of Scilly research
..is a database dedicated to research and study of the Isles of Scilly. Our intention is to create a central resource freely available to all those interested in learning more about Scilly. The database is composed of document summaries - which include books, reports, articles and non-print media such as videos and websites - related to Scilly.

IRIS offers:
  • an opportunity to access an extensive database of information about the islands
  • information about current research in progress
  • a chance to propose new research projects
  • an "Isles of Scilly Research Protocol"

You can search the IRIS database through the interactive map on this page - move your mouse over the islands and click on a location - you will be presented with a list of the documents in our database relating to that location.

You can also search IRIS using document titles, key words and author.

The IRIS database contains records of existing research data, studies,
policy statements and special legislation. There are also records of books, journal articles, videos, websites and other sources of information. We hope that IRIS will help to improve co-ordination and ensure that valuable information obtained by various external bodies in their studies can be used to positively influence the islands and their communities, and provide resources which will inform socio-economic development and the AONB management process.

We hope that in developing this resource and freely sharing this collection of information, all contributors will benefit from improved access to data, avoid duplicated effort and discover a source of information to inform and assist their own work.

We would also welcome information about current research, and proposed new research projects linked to the Isles of Scilly. In addition, if you have information about a relevant source of information which is not yet included on IRIS, we would welcome further details so that it can be added to our database. Please use the form provided to submit a new document for inclusion on the database.

To guide those considering new research activity, we have listed preferred areas of study, which we hope will help to provide information and data where it is clearly lacking. We have also produced a Research Protocol, to guide those interested in undertaking research on Scilly.
